In the new commercial for Trojan condoms, beer-swilling swine are transformed into attractive men upon their purchase of a condom from a barroom vending machine. The accompanying slogan is “Evolve: Use a condom every time.”
The cheeky commercials aren’t especially scandalous. Ads for Axe body spray feature more sexuality than Trojan’s latest campaign. But the prophylactic manufacturer’s “Evolve” spots have been banned by CBS and Fox.
Trojan’s previous ad campaign, which promoted condom use because a partner may be HIV-positive, was accepted by the networks. In a letter to Trojan, Fox said it rejected “Evolve” because “advertising must stress health-related uses rather than the prevention of pregnancy.” (To paraphrase “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart: “Pregnancy isn’t a health issue. Except for women.”) CBS called the ad “not appropriate,” even for its rowdier late-night audience.

Given the efforts of Fox and CBS to eradicate nonhealth-related sex-aid advertising from their rosters, the logical next step is for the networks to block those Levitra commercials that are broadcast frequently throughout NFL games.
Makers of Levitra, the prescription pill for erectile dysfunction, plunked down an estimated $20 million over three years to advertise during the NFL regular season. (Super Bowl ads, of course, command their own ransom.)
Commercials for Levitra feature a “flame” logo that looks like a barely abstract representation of female anatomy. But Levitra’s most brazen tactic was a spot featuring a man who is trying to toss a football through his front-yard tire swing. At first, the ball bounces off the edge of the obstinate swing. But finally our hero scores. And scores again. He is then joined by his improbably hot wife, and the two head inside for a private game of catch.
In March, the NFL decided to end Levitra’s sponsorship deal. An NFL spokesman said “the ads shifted from men’s health to a performance, lifestyle issue.”
So while there will be no more “Levitra NFL Play of the Week” in the coming football season, the company is still free to advertise during games broadcast by Fox and CBS — the only two networks to shun Trojan’s “Evolve” campaign.
Because ED isn’t a health issue. Except for men.

Many people who suffer a heart attack had never had any symptoms of heart disease. Of the roughly 5,000 individuals who die of sudden cardiac arrest in Sweden each year, two thirds had not had any known heart disease. But in men there is one thing that should constitute a advance sign of coming heart problems: impotence.
In some cases, impotence can have neurological, psychiatric, and other causes. But the most common cause, accounting for up to four cases of five, is that the blood circulation in the penis has become so poor that erection is impaired, or no erection can occur at all. And if the circulation in these vessels has been affected by atherosclerosis, then it is highly probable that the same process is under way in the coronary artery in the heart.
In a dissertation from Lund University in Sweden, the physician Rasmus Borgquist has managed to show that this reasoning is correct.
“One of our studies shows that otherwise healthy men with impotence show signs of early atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries of the heart. In another study we saw that men with impotence evince a higher incidence of high blood pressure, high blood fat, abdominal fat, and other traditional risk factors for heart disease,” he says.
The conclusion is that men with impotence problems should seek care as soon as possible, since both their impotence and the possible threat of heart disorders can be counteracted with early intervention. The first priority involves changes in life style, such as quitting smoking, exercise, and altered diet, and then, if these are insufficient, ¬medication for lowering blood pressure and blood fat and also pharmacological therapy for treatment of the impotence as such.

“It’s probably easier to get men to accept changes in their life style if you can point out that they alleviate impotence, rather than talking about the risk of a heart attack sometime down the road. And there are studies that show that potency improves rather quickly in those who quit smoking and lose weight,” says Rasmus Borgquist.
The notion that there is a connection between impotence and heart disease was put forward in the mid 1980s. But this connection has been studied seriously only in recent years.
“Today there is a greater interest in these issues, both among the public and at drug companies,” claims Rasmus Borgquist. “On the one hand, several new drugs have appeared to combat cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors, and, on the other hand, potency drugs like Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra have led many more men to seek help for impotence.”
There is still a certain “awkwardness factor” that makes some patients reluctant to seek help, and some physicians are hesitant to take up the matter. But in Rasmus Borgquist’s experience, once the physician has broached the subject, patients tend to respond frankly.

Passengers and airline crews who frequently fly across time zones face more health problems, including changes in a woman’s menstrual cycle and even minimal psychiatric disturbances, a report recently published in The Lancet, has found.
Jet lag can also affect an athlete’s performance and is worse if the traveller is flying east, researcher Jim Waterhouse and his associates from Liverpool John Moores University discovered.
Common symptoms of jet lag include sleep disturbances, mood changes, stomach problems and decreased alertness.
Although there is no cure for it, new research has found that Viagra could help quicken jet lag recovery on eastbound flights. Argentine scientists have discovered that low doses of sildenafil (more commonly know as the brand Viagra) helped hamsters recover up to 50 per cent faster from forward shifts in their daily time cycles.
It has not yet been proven if Viagra helps human jet lag, but while the search for a cure continues, there is still a lot that can be done to prevent and alleviate jet lag symptoms.
Tips for reducing jet lag:

- Exercise: taking short walks up and down the aisle of the aircraft when possible will reduce stiffness and improve circulation, as will small stretching exercises in your seat.
- Water: Flying is dehydrating. Drinking lots of water and avoiding caffeine and alcohol while on a flight can improve dehydration levels and your mood.
- Props: using ear plugs and an eye mask will help you relax and get a few zzz’s
- Snack: Avoid heavy meals when you arrive at your destination - it will only make you more lethargic.
- More exercise: if you arrive during the day, go for a walk. Daylight is invigorating and staying indoors will only increase the jet lag.
- Adapt: Try to adapt to the time change as quickly as possible by sleeping when the locals do. This is a speedy way to get on track if you can stay awake until bedtime

Eli Lilly and Co. said it’s donating $15 million over the next five years to create a research organization aimed at finding new medicine to treat tuberculosis (TB).
The not-for-profit, public-private partnership will be based in Seattle, will be called the TB Early Phase Drug Discovery program, and will eventually be staffed with 25 full-time drug researchers.
Last year, Indianapolis-based Lilly (NYSE: LLY) bought Bothell biotech Icos Corp. for $2.1 billion and laid off all 700 employees of the company that made the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis.

Lilly said Icos researchers “wanted to apply their experience to discovering drugs for neglected diseases” and those researchers include Drs. Edward Kesiccki and Joshua Odingo, who founded Afya World Medicines. Those doctors, Lilly said, “will provide the core medicinal chemistry expertise of the partnership.”
Lilly will make an in-kind donation of $9 million, which includes screening and chemistry labs, research tools, databases and expertise, as well as $6 million in cash over five years to seed the operation.

A family doctor who had previously been censured for illegally prescribing narcotics was accused today of writing prescriptions for thousands of pills to patients who would then give him a portion of the drugs, federal prosecutors said.
Agents charged Dr. Harry Black, 61, of DeWitt, and 15 others, including his wife, Lisa, with conspiring to obtain narcotics through fraud, forgery and deception, said Andrew Baxter, first assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern New York district.
The 15 others are accused of filling prescriptions Black wrote and giving him part of their drugs for his own recreational use, officials said. On occasion, Black waited in the pharmacy parking lot in his Porsche for his patients to come out with the drugs, according to the criminal complaint.

The group would shop different pharmacies to minimize suspicion, pay cash for narcotics to avoid insurance company regulations and fill prescriptions in others’ names to feed their own addictions, Baxter said. The drugs included OxyContin, amphetamines, Viagra, Cialis, Clonepin and Levitra.
An alert from a pharmacist at Wegmans in DeWitt in 2005 triggered the two-year investigation, prosecutor John Katko said.

PONDERAY — A Kootenai man was ordered held Wednesday on $100,000 bail after he was charged with sexually assaulting 60-year-old woman.
Robert James Sutton Jr. is accused of violating the woman with his hand at a Ponderay home in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning. He is charged with forcible penetration by use of a foreign object, a felony which carries the potential of a lifelong prison sentence upon conviction.
Sutton, 24, reportedly declined to speak with law enforcement without an attorney, but told an officer he had done nothing wrong, according to the arrest report.

Bonner County Sheriff’s Deputy Katie Rivera told a judge on Wednesday that the woman said she ordered Sutton to stop and pushed him away, court records allege. Sutton, according to court testimony, responded by pinning the woman to a bed and committing the assault.
Ponderay Police Officer Jimmy Cornelius told the court the defendant and the alleged victim have known each other for a period of time and a similar incident occurred between the two several years ago but wasn’t reported at the time, court papers said.
Sutton plans to seek private counsel, court records show. Judge Barbara Buchanan ordered Sutton to have no contact with the woman.

Q. I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I’m getting low scores in the husband department, if you get my drift. Is this happening just because I’m getting older?
A. First, you have no reason to be embarrassed. And I definitely get your drift; I’m going to guess that you don’t mean you’re forgetting to put the toilet seat down.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is very common. Depending upon how you define ED, there are 15 million to 30 million men who have it. ED ranges from complete impotence to unsatisfactory performance.
But it doesn’t have to be a part of getting older. As you age, you may need more stimulation and more time, but older men should still be able to get an erection and enjoy sex.
The incidence of ED increases with age. Between 15 and 25 percent of 65-year-old men experience this problem. In older men, ED usually has a physical cause, such as a drug side effect, disease or injury. Anything that damages the nerves or impairs blood flow in the penis can cause ED.
The following are some leading causes of erectile dysfunction: diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), prostate surgery, hormone imbalance, alcohol and drug abuse.
And, of course, there are your emotions. It should be no surprise that, if you’re having a relationship problem with your sex partner, you can suffer from ED. Here are some other psychological influences: anxiety over a previous failure, everyday stress, depression, and feeling unattractive to your partner. If you’re suffering from ED, you should see your doctor for a discussion and physical exam.

Monitoring erections that occur during sleep can help the diagnosis.
Healthy men have involuntary erections during sleep. If nocturnal erections do not occur, then ED is likely to have a physical rather than psychological cause. Tests of nocturnal erections are not completely reliable, however.
The cause of the ED will determine the treatment. Some ED medicines are injected into the penis. Other medicines are taken orally. In addition to medicines, there are vacuum pump devices and surgery.
Millions of men have benefited from three drugs that treat ED. These three, which are advertised endlessly, are Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. All of them increase blood flow to the penis, which produces an erection. Viagra, Levitra and Cialis improve the response to sexual stimulation, but they do not trigger an automatic erection as injections do.
Oral testosterone can reduce ED in some men with low levels of natural testosterone, but it is often ineffective and may cause liver damage. Nitroglycerin, a muscle relaxant, can sometimes enhance erection when rubbed on the penis.
Research on drugs for treating ED is expanding rapidly. If you have ED, you should ask your doctor about the latest advances.

A recent study by the Department of Justice found that military veterans are twice as likely to be incarcerated for sexual assault than nonveterans. When asked about the finding, Margaret E. Noonan, one of the authors of the study, told the Associated Press, “We couldn’t come to any definite conclusion as to why.” The intrinsic and systemic connection between militarism and violence against women, however, makes this finding far from surprising.
Sexual violence has been a de facto weapon of war since the beginning of the patriarchal age. Raping and assaulting women is seen as a way to attack the honor of the enemy, and women have always been the spoils of war. The result is that many types of violence against women are exacerbated by militarism, including the indirect effects on civilian populations both during hostilities and after the conflict ends and soldiers go home. These include:
* Rape/sexual assault and harassment both within the military and perpetrated on civilian populations
* Domestic violence
* Prostitution, pornography and trafficking
* Honor killing
Examples are not hard to find. Before and during WWII, the Japanese enslaved as many as 200,000 “comfort” women, and after the defeat of the Japanese, the United States continued to use tens of thousands of Japanese women as sex slaves. During the 1990s more than 5,000 women were trafficked into South Korea primarily to work as “entertainers” near U.S. military bases. Hundreds of thousands of women have been raped, frequently for the purpose of ethnic cleansing in countries such as Bosnia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In this country, sexual abuse within the military is often ignored. None of the officers implicated in the Tailhook that involved the sexual harassment of women were ever prosecuted. Sexual abuse problems at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs have only been partially addressed, and the murders of military wives at Ft. Bragg, N.C., and Ft. Campbell, Ky., provide shocking examples of the problems of intimate partner abuse within military families.
A 2003 study reported that 30 percent of female U.S. veterans reported being the victim of rape or attempted rape during their military service. Last year there were 2,374 reports of sexual assault by service members. Despite this, the military quit providing emergency contraception as part of its medical formulary in 2002 (even while officially recognizing its importance), and a recent congressional attempt to reinstate it was scuttled due to lack of support (ironically, the erectile dysfunction drug Levitra is included in the formulary).
Internet Pharmacy - Buy Pharmacy at reasanoble prices.Internet Pharmacy provides confortable and easy way to order pharmacy via internet.
As the above illustrates, this latest statistic regarding sexual assaults by military veterans is clearly no accident. It a systemic part of a military culture that not only tolerates but frequently encourages the hatred and belittling of women.
What this study illustrates is that clearly the impact that militarism has on how men treat women does not end when a conflict is over; indeed, the effects of militarism during post-conflict periods can also be quite grave. So-called honor killings have risen dramatically in Iraq in recent years, with the most recent horrific killing of 17-year-old Duaa Khalil Aswad because she fell in love with a man of a different religious sect. Honor killings are a common tool for reestablishing a sense of control in the aftermath of conflict, and men returning from “war” frequently transfer their entitlement to commit violence from the battlefield to their own communities.
While the military acknowledges the problem, it has also tried to cast the blame on such factors as the relatively young age of the offenders compared to the population at large and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). But neither explanation holds up in that this isn’t a problem of men beating up men. Nor is it a problem of female vets, many of whom also are young and/or suffer from PTSD (99 percent of incarcerated vets are male), committing sexual assault. It is a problem of men raping and assaulting women.
It isn’t surprising that the DOJ feigns bafflement about these latest statistics. For years now the problem of misogynist violence in the military has been the subject of lengthy reports and hearings. Yet the problem continues and with very good reason — to cop an understanding of the issue and truly remedy the problem would require no less than a complete rethinking of the ethos of military violence and how it exacerbates the global pandemic of violence against women.
